Kantha is one of India’s oldest textile traditions. In rural Bengal and Bihar, women gathered worn dhotis and saris — cloth already soft from years of use — and stitched them together by hand, layer by layer, into something new. The running stitch that holds them is simple and meditative, the colours shaped entirely by whatever fabric life had left behind.

Each of these cushion covers is cut from a genuine vintage Kantha blanket, which means no two are the same. The combinations of colour, pattern and texture are entirely unpredictable — faded indigos next to dusty rose, geometric borders meeting floral fields. That unpredictability is the whole point.
