In the desert city of Barmer, Rajasthan, women artisans practice a form of patience most of us have forgotten. Cutwork begins with layers of cotton laid together, a floral pattern traced by hand, then carefully cut away — negative space becoming the design itself. Each edge is then sewn by hand, keeping the delicate motif from unraveling. It is slow, precise work, and the results carry that care in every thread.

This cushion cover is made from soft off-white cotton that takes on warmth in natural light, the cutwork flowers casting faint shadows across whatever surface they rest on. It is the same technique used in our larger cutwork bedspreads — brought here into something smaller, more intimate, easier to live with every day.
