Olive is a difficult colour to get right and impossible to forget once it is. Against a white kitchen wall this cabinet reads as something between furniture and landscape.

Underneath the paint it is old teak, restored rather than rebuilt, with brass handles worn smooth by other hands. At 68 x 35 x 146 cm it slips into places most cabinets cannot, and the glass in the doors and down both sides keeps it from feeling heavy — you see the plates and glasses inside, and the light goes through it.
